A potential solid adsorption refrigeration pair: active carbon fiber-methanol.

Summary

Several existing problems are still the obstacles for the development of solid adsorption machines, such as long cycle time and low refrigerating power per unit mass of adsorbent, which cause the large size of adsorber, meanwhile the COP of a refrigerator should be further improved. The authors' experiments show that active carbon-fiber (ACF) might be a good substitute for activated carbon (AC) as the refrigeration capacity and adsorption time of ACF are 3 times more and 1/5 to 1/10 of those of normal AC respectively. The COP for ACF-methanol could be 10 to 20% higher than that of AC-methanol.
