A R744 transcritical system with heat recovery for a supermarket: a case study.

Author(s) : COLOMBO I., JORDAN L., MAIDMENT G., et al.

Summary

This paper presents the results of an investigation into sustainable heating and cooling solutions for retail applications using carbon dioxide, a natural refrigerant (R744). It includes a feasibility study of an enhanced R744 transcritical refrigeration system applied to an existing supermarket. The COP of the system is evaluated including the use of heat reclaimed from the R744 system within the store. The total CO2 emission reduction of the supermarket by implementing this innovative refrigeration system is calculated. The construction and testing of a comparable experimental rig is also described.
