Summary

A CHEMICAL HEAT PIPE UTILIZES A SET OF REVERSIBLE ENDOTHERMIC/EXOTHERMIC CHEMICAL REACTIONS BETWEEN A HEAT SOURCE AND A HEAT SINK. A DRAWBACK IS THE REQUIREMENT FOR A CIRCULATING PUMP TO DRIVE THE CHEMICAL REACTANTS AND PRODUCTS AROUND THE HEAT PIPE LOOP. A SELF-DRIVEN CHEMICAL HEAT PIPE HAS BEEN DEVISED AND DEMONSTRATED WHICH PROVIDES UNIDIRECTIONAL FLOW AND USES CHEMICAL REACTION TO DRIVE THE VAPORIZATION AND TRANSPORT PROCESS. THE PAPER INCLUDES DISCUSSION OF THE CONCEPT, THE LABORATORY DEMONSTRATION, THE SELF-MODULATING CHARACTER OF THE FLOW AND METHODS FOR HEAT RECUPERATION TO ENHANCE THERMAL EFFICIENCY.
