THE AUTHOR DESCRIBES THE OPERATION OF A HEAT PIPE AND EXPLAINS THE REDUCTION IN COST OF MAKING EACH ROW OF HEAT PIPES IN A FINNED PIPE HEAT EXCHANGER A CONTINUOUS CIRCUIT, THE INDIVIDUAL PIPES BEING CONNECTED BY RETURN BENDS. EACH ROW CAN THEN BE CHARGED AND SEALED AS ONE UNIT. THE CHARGE WILL DISTRIBUTE AUTOMATICALLY WHEN OPERATION BEGINS AND WEIRS IN EACH CONNECTING BEND PREVENT GRAVITY DRAINING ON SHUT DOWN. D.W.H.
