THE AUTHORS HAVE DEVELOPED A NEW TYPE OF BLOOD COMPONENT COLLECTOR (BCC) CONSISTING OF POLYETHYLENE HOLLOW FIBERS AND APPLIED THIS SYSTEM TO COLLECT AUTOLOGOUS BLOOD COMPONENTS. THE USE OF THE BCC SYSTEM WITH ADDITIVE SODIUM CHLORIDE-ADENINE-GLUCOSE-MANNITOL SOLUTION FOR RED CELL CONCENTRATES MADE IT POSSIBLE TO PRESERVE RED CELLS UP TO 5 WEEKS IN THE LIQUID STATE. IN THE PAPER THE AUTHORS INTRODUCE THE USE OFTHE BCC SYSTEM WITH ADDITIVE SOLUTIONS AS A SIMPLE METHOD FOR AUTOLOGOUS BLOOD TRANSFUSION.
