Summary
THE PAPER CONCERNS MAINLY THE STRUCTURE OF RIGID POLYURETHANE FOAM AND THE EFFECT OF HEAT TRANSFER THROUGH THE STRUCTURE RATHER THAN THE FOAMING GAS TRAPPED IN THE CELLS. THE STRUCTURE TAKES THE FORM OF SOLID PLASTIC STRUTS EACH HAVING THREE THIN PLASTIC WINDOWS CONNECTED TO IT. THE CONDUCTION THROUGH THIS STRUCTURE IS MODELLED AND INCORPORATED WITH THE CONTRIBUTION OF THE TRAPPED GAS TO STUDY THE CELL COMPOSITION FOR MINIMUM HEAT TRANSFER RATES. AN APPENDIX DISCUSSES THE DETERMINATION OF CELL-SIZE, ANISOTROPY, AND THE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN STRUCTURAL DIMENSIONS. D.W.H.
