THE QUESTIONNAIRE ON BUILDING SERVICE SYSTEMS AND INDOOR ENVIR ONMENT OF OFFICE BUILDINGS WAS CONDUCTED FROM 1983 THROUGH TO 1984 IN FUKUOKA, KUMAMOTO, KAGOSHIMA AND OITA. THE PAPER DESCRIBES THE AIR-CONDITIONING SYSTEMS, EQUIPMENT CAPACITY AND MANAGEMENT BESIDES THE ARCHITECTURAL ASPECTS,CLASSIFYING THE BUILDINGS BY MANAGEMENT INTO 3 CLASSES OF PUBLIC, OWNERSHIP AND TENANT BUILDINGS. SIMILAR SURVEYS HAVE BEEN CARRIED OUT IN THE PAST, BUT ALMOST ALL OF THEM WERE LIMITED TO METROPOLS SUCHA TOKYO, OSAKA AND NAGOYA. MANY DIFFERENCES ARE FOUND BETWEEN CITIES IN THE CLIMATE, CUSTOMS, ECONOMY, SOCIAL ACTIVITY, ETC, WHICH INFLUENCE THE UTILIZATION OF AIR-CONDITIONING SYSTEMS.
