Summary

AN EXPERIMENTAL AND ANALYTICAL STUDY CONCERNING THE IMPACT FAT IGUE CHARACTERISTICS OF DISCHARGE FLAPPER VALVES WITH DIFFERENT VALVE THICKNESSES AND VALVE SEAT CONDITIONS WAS PERFORMED. THE IMPACT VELOCITY CORRESPONDING TO THE IMPACT FATIGUE LIMIT WAS DETERMINED. AN ANALYSIS WAS MADE OF THE IMPACT STRESS DISTRIBUTION IN THE VALVE AFTER CONTACT BETWEEN THE VALVE AND THE SEAT. THE COMPUTATIONS WERE CARRIED OUT USINGTHE NONLINEAR DYNAMICS THREE DIMENSIONAL FINITE 8-NODE ELEMENT METHOD. THE COMPUTED RESULTS WERE SHOWN TO BE IN GOOD AGREEMENT WITH THE CORRESPONDING MEASURED DATA.
