Summary
THE EUROPEAN TRANSONIC WINDTUNNEL PROJECT, SPONSORED BY THE GOVERNMENTS OF FRANCE, GERMANY, THE UNITED KINGDOM AND THE NETHERLANDS, AIMS AT PROVIDING THE EUROPEAN AEROSPACE INDUSTRY WITH A NEW TEST FACILITY. IT IS CURRENTLY UNDER CONSTRUCTION NEAR COLOGNE. THE FACILITY IS A HIGH-REYNOLDS-NUMBER TRANSONIC WINDTUNNEL USING NITROGEN AT CRYOTEMPERATURES AND HIGH PRESSURES AS A TEST MEDIUM. FLOW CONDITIONS CLOSE TO THOSE ENCOUNTERED IN FLIGHT CAN BE SIMULATED ON SMALL MODELS.
