Summary

THE ABSOLUTE NEGATIVE RESISTANCE IN THE TUNNEL JUNCTION OF A SUPERCONDUCTOR IN THE PRESENCE OF EXCESS QUASIPARTICLES IN THE ELECTRODE WITH A LARGER ENERGY GAP IS STUDIED EXPERIMENTALLY. QUASIPARTICLE INJECTION FROM AN ADDITIONAL TUNNEL JUNCTION IS EMPLOYED TO CREATE THE NONEQUILIBRIUM STATE IN THE ELECTRODE. ABSOLUTE NEGATIVE RESISTANCE IS OBSERVED IN THE LOW TEMPERATURE REGION IN WHICH THE QUASIPARTICLE RECOMBINATION TIME IS MUCH LONGER. THE REGION OF OBSERVATION OFTHE ABSOLUTE NEGATIVE RESISTANCE AND ALSO THE SHAPE OF THE CURRENT-VOLTAGE CHARACTERISTIC UNDER ABSOLUTE NEGATIVE RESISTANCE CONDITIONS CAN BE DESCRIBED SATISFACTORILY BY THEORY.
