Summary

The article reviews the principles involved in both vapour-compression and absorption refrigeration, and describes the advantages of an ammonia-water absorption system for refrigerated vehicles. Heat energy is supplied by the exhaust gas from the tractor's engine. All equipment, including a natural-convection evaporator, is in the trailer. The entire unit and its performance are described.
