Adiabatic expansion of helium 3 in superfluid helium 4.

Summary

The results of the investigation of a one-shot cooling technique, called adiabatic expansion of helium 3 in superfluid helium 4, are reported. It is shown that the fountain pressure in a helium 4 reservoir can be used as the driving force for the helium 4 flow. The theoretical analysis has revealed no fundamental limitations for obtaining final temperatures in the microK region.
