Summary

The paper presents the design of a novel advanced adsorption chiller driven by a low-temperature heat source. The performance of the proposed chiller was evaluated numerically. The results show that the proposed chiller provides over 75% cooling capacity more than the conventional adsorption chiller if the heat source temperature is below 60 °C. The proposed chiller also provides almost the same cooling capacity as that provided by conventional two-stage chiller for a low-temperature heat source, an has a COP value almost 30% higher than the COP value provided by two-stage chiller. Simulation results also show that the overall performance of the proposed system is always higher than that of the conventional and two-stage adsorption cycle even when the temperature of the heat source fluctuates within the range 50-90 °C.
