Summary
The article describes a seven-year plan which was started in Japan in 1991. Most of the components developed under the programme (e.g. the thermal energy storage tank) were superior in economy and ready to be applied. Some hardware needed further cost-reduction efforts, in spite of the fact that target performances were met.
