THE AUTHORS DISCUSS RESEARCH INTO ENERGY SAVING, ON AUXILIARY MACHINERY OF PASSENGER FERRIES (BERTHED OR AT SEA). PARTICULAR ATTENTION WAS PAID TO AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEMS WHICH ACCOUNTED FOR ALMOST 50% OF THECOMBINED AUXILIARY MACHINERY. THE EXAMPLE OF A NEW VESSEL HAVING A CAPACITY OF 800 AUTOMOBILES AND 3,000 PERSONS WAS QUOTED. THE CHILLED WATER SYSTEM (3 CENTRIFUGAL COMPRESSORS) AND WATER HEATING, THE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM FOR LIVING QUARTERS (300,000 M3 ) AND THE CENTRALIZED SYSTEM FOR REMOTE MANAGEMENT, CONTROL AND MONITORING ARE DESCRIBED.
