Summary

The heating ventilation air conditioning (HVAC) design without wet elements for hospitals and in particular for operating and intensive therapy rooms, can be solved by dehumidification plants with sorption rotors. In this paper a dehumidification plant with a rotary desiccant system is compared with a conventional one equipped with a dehumidification system with refrigerated water. The seasonal energy performances of the plant systems studied is simulated, in particular referring to the heat recovery system from cogeneration plants. Referring to an existent hospital located in Florence (Italy), the real functioning of the plants is evaluated taking into account the effective quantity of the recoverable heat. Plants that use the heat recovered for the regeneration of a dehumidifier, are compared with plants that use the recovered heat for a trigeneration system. This comparison takes into account the management and amortization costs of the machineries.
