AIR COOLED CONDENSERS FOR SUPERMARKET REFRIGERATION.

Summary

THE AUTHOR STRESSES THE IMPORTANCE OF ADEQUATE AIR COOLED CONDENSER SURFACE FOR LOW TEMPERATURE SUPERMARKET REFRIGERATION. MANY SEMI-HERMETIC COMPRESSOR FAILURES ARE ATTRIBUTED TO MOTOR OVERHEATING CAUSED BY UNDERSIZED CONDENSERS. THE DIFFERENCE IS POINTED OUT BETWEEN DESIGN PARAMETERS FOR SUPERMARKETS COMPARED TO AIR CONDITIONING APPLICATIONS WHERE ALREADY HIGH EVAPORATING TEMPERATURES CAN BE ALLOWED TO RISE FURTHER IN EXTRA HIGH AMBIENT CONDITIONS. CATALOGUE CONDENSING UNITS NORMALLY INCLUDE CONDENSERS WHICH ARE ACTUALLY UNDERSIZED FOR SAFE LOW-TEMPERATURE OPERATION, AND OPTIONAL LARGER CONDENSERS SHOULD NORMALLY BE USED. D.W.H.
