ONIONS ARE AN UNUSUAL HORTICULTURAL PRODUCT ; THEY CAN BE SHIPPED FROM AUSTRALIA TO MARKETS IN THE NORTHERN HEMISPHERE WITHOUT REFRIGERATION, PROVIDED THEY ARE VENTILATED CONTINUOUSLY WITH AMBIENT AIR. PURPOSE-BUILT FANTAINERS (FAN-VENTILATED CONTAINERS) ARE NOW JOINING THE MANY MODIFIED GENERAL-PURPOSE CONTAINERS PREVIOUSLY PUT INTO SERVICE. THEY HAVE BEEN TESTED WITH ONIONS. THE RESULTS ARE GIVEN.
