Summary

THE AUTHOR COMPARES 3 EXISTING MODELS OF AIR INFILTRATION FOR DETACHED HOUSES: THE LAWRENCE BERKELEY LABORATORY MODEL (LBL), THE NATIONAL RESEARCH COUNCIL OF CANADA MODEL (NRC) AND THE VARIABLE FLOW EXPONENT MODEL. THE AIM WAS TO IDENTIFY THE BEST MODEL IN TERMS OF ACCURACY AND SIMPLICITY FOR LATER USE IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF A VENTILATION ASSESSMENT PRESCRIPTIVE PROCEDURE (VAPP) WHICH WAS BEING DEVELOPED TO ESTIMATE AIR INFILTRATION RATE. FINDS THE NRC AND LBL MODELS OFFER THE BEST PREDICTION ACCURACY. THE NRC IS THE SIMPLEST TO USE AND WAS RECOMMENDED AS A BASIS FOR THE VAPP DEVELOPMENT.
