Summary
Liquid desiccant is a lithium bromide solution. The nominal 2-ton (7 kilowatts) system performed for more than 800 hours, cooling 35 deg C, 40% relative humidity air to 12 deg C while maintaining an enclosed space at 27 deg C, 50% relative humidity. In addition, operations were successful at extreme ambient conditions of 30 deg C, 80% relative humidity, and 41 deg C, 20% relative humidity. The operating cost of a conventional Electrical Energy Rate (EER) 10 unit appears to be 52% greater when compared with projected costs of the liquid desiccant air conditioner. With small modifications, the system will operate as a heat pump.
