Summary

A comparison was made between ammonia and R134a. Test results indicated that centralised air-conditioning plants operating with ammonia are more efficient. These installations are also more favourable as regards global environmental issues. An adverse factor is the expense involved in adhering to the requirements of the VGB20, German regulations. However, taken as a whole the economic advantages prevail also in view of the concept adopted for the liquid-chilling unit.
