Summary

THE FICK LAW REFERS TO DIFFUSIONAL FLOW AND IS GOVERNED BY CONCENTRATION DIFFERENCES. THE DARCY LAW IS HYDRODYNAMIC AND IS GOVERNED BY PRESSURE DIFFERENCES. BOTH ARE APPARENT IN THE PROCESS OF SUBLIMATION WITH REFERENCETO FREEZE-DRYING. THE WORK DESCRIBED IN THIS PAPER STUDIES THIS PROCESS AND CONCLUDES THAT ALTHOUGH BOTH FLOWS TAKEN TOGETHER FORM A MORE COMPLETE MODEL OF THE PROCESS, THE DARCY LAW IS BY FAR THE MORE IMPORTANT.
