An analytical study on refrigerating power for room temperature magnetic refrigerator.

Number: sect. 3

Summary

There have been many works for modeling and calculating on refrigerating capacity for magnetic refrigerator near room temperature. But due to the cycle characteristic of magnetic refrigeration, the analytical study was seldom seen. If analytical works are absent, it will be difficult to give a good design for a magnetic refrigerator. With some reasonable simplifications, the authors carried out a semi-analytical study on refrigerating power for magnetic refrigerator. The work was for active magnetic regenerator (AMR). It was found that the refrigerating capacity per cycle is proportional to the square of MCE of magnetic refrigerant, or proportional to ?T(MCE) ?S(MCE) the product of adiabatic temperature change and isothermal entropy change of magnetic refrigerant, and inversely proportional to temperature span of AMR bed. In addition, the less specific heat of heat exchange fluid is also an advantage. The molding assumptions are also discussed detailed, which allows us to understand the key factors affecting on ideal cycle better.
