Summary
Localised pressure losses in pipes, due to "accidents" in liquid flow (bends, sudden direction changes in a section) depend on the geometry of the accident for which minimum radii exist that are said to be critical and beyond which the fluid layer becomes detached along the inner surface of the element is minimal. This reduces losses considerably. A calculation method for these radii is proposed which consists in using an irrotational analysis of the flow in the element, then to carry out an analysis of the boundary layer along the interior surface to see if it becomes detached.
