VAPOUR COMPRESSION IS EFFECTED BY A DIESEL-DRIVEN COMPRESSOR WHICH OFFERS SCOPE FOR THE RECOVERY OF ENERGY FROM WASTE HEAT. COMPARISON OF THE CALCULATED COP WITH THAT OF A CONVENTIONAL ABSORPTION UNIT SHOWS THAT FOR EVAPORATOR TEMPERATURES 287 AND 278 K (14 AND 5 DEG C) IT HAS RISEN RESPECTIVELY THREEFOLD AND MORE THAN TWOFOLD, EQUIVALENT TO COP VALUES OF 5. 9 AND 3.9 RESPECTIVELY.
