Summary

In this study, the single-phase heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics of water are investigated in a shell and plate heat exchanger. The shell and plate heat exchanger with total four plates has a circular shape plate with a corrugated sinusoidal surface pattern. The modified Wilson plot method is used to determine the single-phase heat transfer coefficient for both shell and plate sides. New empirical correlations are proposed for evaluating both single-phase heat transfer and pressure drop in the shell and plate heat exchanger in terms of the Nusselt number and friction factor.
