AN INDEX FOR RATING THE PERFORMANCE OF SUPPLY AIR TERMINAL DEVICES USED IN AIR CONDITIONING.

Summary

A REVIEW OF THERMAL COMFORT MAINLY IN RELATION TO LOCAL AIR SPEED AND TEMPERATURE REQUIREMENTS HAS BEEN CARRIED OUT TO IDENTIFY A SUITABLE INDEX FOR RATING THE PERFORMANCE OF SUPPLY AIR TERMINAL DEVICES. FANGER'S COMFORT EQUATION AND THE PROCEDURE FOR DETERMINING LOWEST POSSIBLE PERCENTAGE OF DISSATISFIED (LPPD), PROVIDE AN APPROPRIATE MEANS OF ASSESSING THE THERMAL UNIFORMITY OF THE ENVIRONMENT. THE SELECTED INDEX IS DEFINED AS THENUMBER OF POSITIONS WITHIN THE OCCUPIED SPACE WHERE LPPD IS NOT GREATER THAN 8% AND WHERE THE LOCAL AIR SPEED IS NOT GREATER THAN 0.35 M/S.
