Analysis of a self sustained desiccant cooling system.

Summary

Air conditioning is an energy intensive process. Evaporative cooling is an economical substitute to conventional air conditioning. But it is effective only at "hot and dry" ambient conditions. In the paper, a novel self sustained desiccant cooling system suitable for space air conditioning is explained and analysed. The cooling capacity of the system is found to increase with increase in efficiency of the desiccant dehumidifier, wet-bulb depression of ambient air and the ratio of outside air to supply air. It is concluded that application of the system for air conditioning could extend up to "hot and moderate" ambient conditions.
