Desiccant based air-conditioning systems: the emerging alternative.

Author(s) : DHAR P. L.

Summary

For air-conditioning applications desiccant augmented evaporative cooling systems offer an environmentally benign alternative to conventional systems based on vapour compression refrigeration. The paper presents a brief review of the status of this emerging technology. Hybrid systems, using desiccant to remove the moisture and refrigeration system to remove the sensible heat, which offer a number of advantages over the stand-alone desiccant and vapour compression refrigeration systems, are also discussed.
