Analysis of the green roof cooling potential in buildings.

Author(s) : DEL BARRIO E. P.

Type of article: Article

Summary

Carries out several parametric sensitivity analyses to assess the cooling potential of green roofs in summer. The main conclusion is that green roofs do not cool but insulate, reducing the heat flux through the roof. Identifies a relatively small set of parameters as relevant to green roof design: the leaf area index and the foliage geometrical characteristics, the soil apparent density, its thickness and moisture content.
