Summary
This article introduces the HVAC BESTEST method developed in conjunction with the IEA Solar Heating and Cooling Programme, Task 22. An analytical verification and comparative diagnostic procedure have been developed to test the ability of whole-building energy simulation programmes to model the performance of unitary space-cooling equipment, which is typically modelled using manufacturer design data presented as empirically derived performance maps. Field trials of the new procedure were carried out with specific simulation programmes from the USA and Europe.
