Applications of high critical temperature thin layer superconductors to hyperfrequencies.

Applications des supraconducteurs à haute température critique en couches minces aux hyperfréquences.

Summary

High-critical-temperature superconductors, and more particularly the thin-layer YBaCuO phase, present surface resistances with hyperfrequencies 100-1000 times lower than those of normal conductors at temperatures of approximately 70 K, which are easily obtainable in conventional cryogenics. These properties are used in the construction of microwave components with results unobtainable through other means: 3D resonators with the quality factors of several millions for the design of oscillators with ultralow phase noise; 2D resonators with quality factors of several tens of thousands for filter systems, in particular for radio and telephone base stations tat around 2 GHz. This technology offers the right solutions to problems encountered in rapidly expanding systems, such as third generation telecommunications (UMTS, CDMA, etc.).
