Summary

ASHRAE has long been in the business of ventilation, but most of the focus of that effort has been in the area of commercial and institutional buildings. Residential ventilation was traditionally not a major concern because it was believed that, between operable windows and envelope leakage, people were getting enough outside air in their homes. In the three decades since the first oil crisis, houses have become much more energy efficient. At the same time, the kinds of materials and functions in houses changed in character in response to people's needs. People became more environmentally conscious and aware not only about the resources they were consuming but about the environment in which they lived. Homeowners and occupants will benefit from the application of Standard 62.2 and use of the top 10 list.
