Summary

The proteins preferentially coimmunoprecipitated with SSMCs at low temperature belong to a class of proteins whose biogenesis is impaired to some level, or alternatively, they may be "cold labile" proteins whose native stability is compromised. Efforts are underway to refine the technique to make it possible to identify the coimmunoprecipitating proteins. If its possible to determine identity, then it should be possible to assess directly the in vivo functional status of the protein following a low-temperature treatment.
