Automated fault detection and diagnostics for cooling equipment.

Author(s) : BRAUN J. E.

Type of article: Article

Summary

The article presents the results of studies on how to use the unit controller and low-cost measurements to continuously monitor performance in order to detect and diagnose faults. The probabilities associated with the occurrence of any fault are estimated through statistical analysis and faults are diagnosed when pre-defined thresholds are exceeded. Two new projects were initiated this fall: one on a high efficiency rooftop air conditioner and one on commercial chillers.
