Summary

The demonstration plant, which has a refrigeration capacity of approximately 1.9 megawatts, is placed at Lego Systems A/S in Billund, Denmark and is used for chilling of process water during the production of the well-known LEGO bricks. The plant is the result of a development project, the aim of which was to carry out research and development of thermodynamic processes by evaporation and condensation of water with direct heat exchange and without using physical separating surfaces. One has in a period of development to expect a little higher investment level for plants of this type, depending on the capacity and use. Detailed analyses show that in serial production it will be possible to manufacture plants at competitive prices in case of relatively high capacities. At the present stage of development the plants do physically take up more space than conventional plants.
