Behaviour of oil films on structured packings under cryogenic conditions.

Summary
Increasing use is now made of structured packings in cryogenic air separation plants. Then a high surface-to-volume ratio may result in more oil being introduced into the plant than with conventional perforated plates. Particles of solid may flake off due to motion in the cryogenic fluid. With surface coatings of oil in the range of 30-250 mg/m2, no decrease in the amount of oil on the packing surface was established within the accuracy of the analytical method used.
