Summary

PREVIOUS WORK ON CONDENSATION OR BOILING ON A POROUS MEDIUM HAVE ASSUMED THE APPLICATION OF DARCY'S LAW AND THE NON-SIGNIFICANCE OF CAPILLARITY EFFECTS. BY APPLYING AN EXPANSION OF BOUNDARY-LAYER TREATMENT FOR CONDENSATION IN THE ABSENCE OF A SOLID MATRIX TO INCLUDE THE FIRST-ORDER RESISTANCE PRESENT IN A SOLID MATRIX, THE AUTHORS HAVE DISCOVERED SOME INTERESTING RESULTS. THEY ARE NOW ABLE TO PREDICT AN APPROXIMATE EXPANSION PARAMETER AT WHICH NON-DARCIAN EFFECTS BECOME SIGNIFICANT. D.W.H.
