Summary

Air-treatment systems in modern buildings create a favourable environment for the accumulation, proliferation and spread of microorganisms. Apart from cases of Legionnaire's disease and Monday fever, few cases can be directly attributed to these systems. This article describes the methodological difficulties to be overcome when attempting to demonstrate disease transmission via air-treatment systems.
