Carbon dioxide as a secondary refrigerant.

Type of article: Article
Summary
A survey of the pros and the cons of using CO2 as a two-phase secondary refrigerant for applications in retail sales. Safety measures against excess pressure are discussed. The performance of such an indirect refrigerating system, for two typical evaporating temperatures, is compared to that of a direct expansion system operating on R22; the inherently higher operating costs of the indirect system can be offset by lower costs from refrigerant losses.
