Summary

THE PRINCIPAL PARAMETERS USED TO DEFINE THE PERFORMANCE OF CENTRIFUGAL COMPRESSOR STAGES ARE REVIEWED AND THEIR PHYSICAL SIGNIFICANCE IS EXPLAINED. A METHOD OF PERFORMANCE PREDICTION IS DESCRIBED. THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE PERFORMANCE OF THE DIFFERENT STAGE COMPONENTS AND THE CHARACTERISTIC CURVES AND OPERATING RANGE OF A STAGE IS DISCUSSED. SOME ASPECTS OF THE PERFORMANCE OF MULTISTAGE COMPRESSORS ARE CONSIDERED AND SEVERAL DIFFERENT CONTROL METHODS FOR COMPRESSORS OPERATING AT OFF-DESIGN POINTS ARE ILLUSTRATED.
