CFD modelling of vegetable cold storage chamber.

Number: pap. ID: 682

Author(s) : KOLODZIEJCZYK M., BUTRYMOWICZ D.

Summary

Problems concerning the modelling of heat and mass transfer phenomena occurring in cold storage chambers for vegetables have been discussed in the paper. Attention has been paid to the problem of modelling of stored vegetables by means of model of porous media. Own numerical calculations of the exemplary cold store chamber with application of ANSYS Fluent have been presented in the paper. Basing on the calculations results it is possible to conclude that numerical approach could be effectively applied for assessment of product storage geometry in the chamber in order to ensure the optimum storage thermal parameters on the basis of the closure equations including flow resistance, heat transfer coefficient, possible phase changes of moisture, and experimentally evaluated turbulence model. The numerical modelling results have been showed and discussed in the paper for the case of the exemplary cold storage chamber.
