Chilled-water production in ice-based thermal storage systems.

Author(s) : KIRSHENBAUM M. S.

Summary

The production of chilled water in ice-based thermal storage systems presents unique operational considerations. In systems where ice production continues through a portion of the building's occupied period, air distribution systems must be designed for airflow rates that peak as water temperature rises. Storage and chiller components can be arranged in either parallel or series configurations; each imposes certain energy savings and penalties that must be examined. Regulation of temperature of chilled water is also discussed in both cases.
