A comparison of energy consumption for storage priority and chiller priority for ice-based thermal storage systems.
Author(s) : SIMMONDS P.
Summary
Chilled water can be produced either by a storage-priority or a chiller-priority system. Both systems have partial storage to optimize plant capacity and minimize capital costs. But the operating strategies for both systems differ; the parameters controlling the production and utilization of chilled water are functions of the intended strategy. Load control optimizes the plant's electrical power use by using the load profile produced from simulation results. It is possible to use a predictable control strategy that minimizes the cooling plant load.
