Author(s) : EIJNDE J. van den

Type of article: Article

Summary

Clean air is necessary in buildings in general because it is conducive to pleasant, productive working conditions. In a hospital, it has added importance because contaminated air can help spread typical hospital infections and can cause other health problems. Building services technology can contribute to achieving clean air. The contribution is not necessarily restricted to the provision of efficient ventilation. Further options emerge when the focus is placed on the sources of contamination. The article discusses these options and gives examples of hospitals where some of them have been implemented.
