Summary

This report is part of Climate Change 2001, the Third Assessment Report of the IPCC. It is the first complete assessment of the science of climate change since Working Group I of the IPCC produced its second report "Climate Change 1995: the science of climate change in 1996". It catalogues the increasing concentrations of atmospheric greenhouse gases and assesses the effects of these gases and atmospheric aerosols in altering the radiation balance of the Earth-atmosphere system. It focuses on the science of climate change and consists of 14 chapters covering the physical climate system, the factors that drive climate change, analyses of past climate and projections of future climate change, and detection and attribution of human influences on recent climate.
