Summary

Cadaveric renal transplantation in Japan has got higher histocompatibility matching from larger recipients pool over the whole country since the act on transplantation was passed, and the Japan Organ Transplant Network started in 1997. However, concerns arise because renal preservation time prolonged by nationwide transportation may possibly cause an increase in the severity of post-transplant acute tubular necrosis resulting in more delayed renal function. Therefore, ischemic or reperfusion injury of kidneys has often much focused on recently. The authors studied the clinical results to determine the effects of perfusion and preservation solutions on the incidence and duration of post-transplant acute tubular necrosis. Moreover, they investigated the protective effects of Euro-Collins solution containing ouabain on renal ischemic and reperfusion injuries.
