Summary

IN THE LAST 10 YEARS, THE AUTHOR HAS TREATED 17 PATIENTS CRYOS URGICALLY 38 TIMES. THE INDICATIONS WERE IN ALL CASES OF A PALLIATIVE NATURE. SEVEN PATIENTS WERE TREATED FOR APRIMARY, INOPERABLE CARCINOMA ; 10 PATIENTS FOR A RELAPSE AFTER LOW-ANTERIOR-RESECTION. EACH OF THE PRIMARY TUMOURS WAS TREATED CRYOSURGICALLY 3 TO 4 TIMES, THE 10 RELAPSES, 1 TO 3 TIMES. SEVEN PATIENTS RECEIVED RADIATION OF THE TUMOURS BEFORE, AND 1 PATIENT AFTER, CRYOSURGICAL TREATMENT. SURVIVAL TIME LASTED FROM 3 TO 30 MONTHS. A COMBINED TREATMENT OF RADIATION AND SUBSEQUENT CRYOSURGERY WAS FOUND TO INTENSIFY THERAPEUTIC EFFECT.
