CLOSED CYCLE CRYOGENIC COOLERS FOR CRYOSURGERY.

Summary

THE MODIFIED STIRLING MACHINE AS A CLOSED CYCLE CRYOGENIC REFRIGERATOR FOR CRYOBIOLOGY APPLICATION IS DESCRIBED. COOLER M15-S WITH THE COOLING CAPACITY OF 1 WATT AT 77 K HAS BEEN USED FOR EXPERIMENTS IN THE DISTRIBUTION OF TEMPERATURE IN SUBSTANCE (MEAT). COOLING RATES FOR DIFFERENT PARAMETERS HAVE ALSO BEEN EXAMINED. THE COOLING RATE OF SUBSTANCE 5 MM DEEP WAS FROM 0.09 K/SEC TO 0.11 K/SEC AND IN 9 MM DEEP WAS 0.075 K/SEC. DIFFERENCE OF INITIAL TEMPERATURE OF COLD HEAD OF 17 K DOES NOT AFFECT, IN PRACTICE, THE FROZEN SURFACE SUBSTANCE TEMPE TIME TO OBTAIN 173 K ON COLD HEAD WITHOUT VACUUM INSULATION WAS 6 MINUTES AND FOR 123 K IT WAS 13 MINUTES.
