CLOSED CYCLE HYBRID CRYOCOOLER COMBINING THE JOULE-THOMSON (JT) CYCLE WITH THERMOELECTRIC COOLERS.

Author(s) : LESTER J.

Type of article: Article

Summary

DESPITE ITS OVERALL ATTRACTIVENESS, THE BASIC JT CYCLE REQUIRES MORE INPUT POWER THAN COMPETING CYCLES. TO OVERCOME THIS DISADVANTAGE, THE AUTHOR HELPED DESIGN A HYBRID CRYOCOOLER THAT USES THERMOELECTRIC COOLERS COMBINED WITH A COUNTERFLOW HEAT EXCHANGER TO ASSIST THE JT PROCESS. THE RESULT IS A HYBRID COOLER WITH POWER PERFORMANCE AS GOOD OR BETTER THAN COMPETING CYCLES.
